So I’m a sound design

So I’m a sound design student at slam academy and I’m at the point where I understand what every knob/function in my synth does..

But now what?
I’m still confused about how to make cool sounds.

Is there a goal? Are there techniques? Guidelines to follow? Like what am I suppose to be doing with all of those knobs to get cool sounds? I’m just lost. Maybe I’m overthinking it and there are no rules/guidelines?
